Kilt Tartan Fabrics

We offer tartans from several sources. As a matter of fact we can provide you with any of the over 5,000 tartans that was ever registered. The reason we use several sources  is that all tartans are not made in every weight or by one woolen mill. If you are after a specific tartan then it may come from a single source. The major Clan Tartans are naturally made by more than one mill. However family tartans or tartans that are weathered, or muted may by offered by only one mill rather than another. This exclusivity has driven the price of those tartans up. The mills know that they happen to be the only place you can purchase a particular tartan, they feel they can charge more for it.
 The first swatch finder is from Strathmore Woolen Mill in Forfar,  Scotland.  Please be aware that only the tartans with the W60 designation at Strathmore are 13oz. tartans for men's kilts.

The tartan swatches below are available from Lochcarron Woolen Mills in Scotland.
We have many more tartans than these available.  Also the classification of the Tartans has changed in the Heavy kilt weight Strome Range.  Click on the name of the Tartan and a swatch will appear. If you do not see your tartan , email us at Tartan@kilts.com and we will find it for you.

Braeriach: Our Medium Premium weight kilt fabric has recently been expanded to over 200 tartans or colorings. It is stocked in 138cm/54" wide, weighing 415gms per running metre, 13oz per yard. Apart from its growing popularity as a standard gents kilt fabric it is has also been in considerable demand for use in home furnishings having excellent wearability properties

Strome :   A collection of 500+ rarer tartans, 71/72cm/28" wide. 16oz.   This is a ideal fabric for Pipe Bands or those that wear a kilt on a daily basis.
