Why buy Here !
We are based in the United Sates.

This is probably your first kilt purchase, or as many of our customers are, buying your first real kilt.  Yes there are other garments out there that fellows will purchase for one reason or another that are not a traditional kilt.  In our FAQ section here I go into that and many other topics.  You may also want to take a look at my Blog plaidtothebone for amusement. As one person described it as " a bit daft " . It fits.

Today with the internet you have many options. We started The Kilt & Thistle in the internets  infancy.  We were one of the first on the internet selling kilts. So for ten years there have been many internet sites that sold kilts, that have  come and gone. Please make sure you are buying from someone that has a real store.
I asked a customer once that had purchased something on Ebay if that business had a real store, he insisted that they did. He was merely defending his purchase, I checked they did not, and have since gone out of business.  If he has a problem with that jacket where will he go?
Things to think about when purchasing you Highland Clothing

1) Do they have a phone number you can call? Did they answer or call you back within the same day?
2) Is their email linked to the business? You will notice that our emails are all @kilts.com
3) Is there a retail store that has merchandise in it?
4) Many of our suppliers are now limiting their sales to those internet businesses. Because those internet businesses do not actually have to stock anything, they just have a bunch of pictures on the web site.
5) Many of our suppliers images of their products have been stolen and displayed on Ebay or web sites that are not actually supplying that merchandise.

Buying from Scotland Directly

Sounds reasonable. But some things to consider.
1) Are you sure of the exchange rate for the currency?
2) Do they have prices posted in both US and British ? Are they the same when you do the currency conversion?
3) Do you know what customs will charge you? Some US Customs can equal 30% of your purchase.
4) If your items are stuck in US Customs, do you know what to do?
5) How easy is the business in Scotland to communicate with?
6) Remember there are less than reputable businesses everywhere, even Scotland. Be Careful.

The prices you see on our web sites are the prices you pay in North America less shipping to you.  The prices include all customs charges that we pay, all tariff charges that we pay, all overseas freight that we pay to get it to North America.

We have selected the best manufactures in Scotland to provide you with he best of all the companies over there. We buy from dozens of suppliers , selecting the best of each company, so you don't have to.

Make one phone call, the Kilt & Thistle  will do the rest.
