I recently got married, and one of the most difficult things to buy was a kilt for my big day. Growing up, it was always my dream to get married in the Stewart tartan (which is my surname) and this became a reality! So, I thought I’d help our customers navigate all the wedding kilts for sale and help you select the best kilt for your big day.
Wedding Kilts for Sale – What One to Choose?
The first thing you should do is select your tartan. Each kilt for sale on Kilts.com has it’s own tartan database for you to select a tartan from. Most grooms select the 8 Yard Kilt and if you follow the advice on the page, you will be asked for a tartan and all your measurements. It’s really that simple. Have a look for your surname in the database for the 8 yard kilt to see if your surname is there. If not, why not go for the Black Watch tartan or the Flower of Scotland tartan? We have thousands of tartans to choose from. You can choose any tartan you like! If you need any recommendations, be sure to let me know, and I will find the perfect tartan for you.
What to Wear with an 8 Yard Wedding Kilt?
If you are looking for a more traditional look, I would recommend a Prince Charlie Jacket and Vest, with a winged collar shirt and black bowtie. The look can be completed with cream kilt socks (hose) with Ghillie Brogues.
For a more modern look, especially if you are under 30 years of age, I would recommend an Argyll Jacket and Vest with a white shirt and a ruche tie. Black kilt socks (hose) with Ghillie Brogues create a modern stylish look that will certainly make you stand out.
What Accessories to Wear with a Wedding Kilt?
Selecting a sporran is essential when wearing a kilt. For a wedding, we would recommend selecting one from our dress sporran range.
Next, select a sgian dubh. This is the small knife that hangs out the top of your kilt hose. It doesn’t necessarily have to have a sharp edge, as you may opt for a plastic knife instead of a metallic one.
Kilt pins are optional. Most people see these as ornamental, but they actually have a functional use. The pin adds weight to the kilt by holding the flaps of the kilt together. It will be quite drafty otherwise!
