Womens Kilt Guide – Best Kilts for Women
Kilt Skirt
This is arguably the most popular look for the majority of females. You will have noticed when browsing the various ladies kilt products that are available, the length of the skirts tend to vary greatly. You will notice that this example above is a three quarter length skirt. These tend to be for formal occasions, and as I am sure you will agree, they look fantastic. This length of kilt skirt is ideal for relaxed and leisurely wear as well, making it quite versatile.
A shorter kilt skirt is also possible, like this example below:
This tends to be for more relaxed occasions rather than formal occasions. The general rule of thumb is the shorter the skirt, the less it is suitable for dressy events.
What is Worn with a Ladies Kilt?
Tartan Sash
Depending on the event, it is usual for the lady to wear a traditional tartan sash. It is important that the sash is made with the same tartan as the kilt, so it matches. It is also possible to wear the sash casually without the kilt, so it is suitable to be re-worn for almost any occasion. The tartan sash tends to be around 90″ long.
Shawls and Serapes
Whilst serapes are not traditionally Scottish, they are commonly worn with ladies kilts. They are perfect for really accentuating and showing your tartan in all its glory.
Erasaids
As we know, women didn’t traditionally wear kilts. Usually, while the men wore kilts, the ladies wore an erasaid. This is best described as a “Great Kilt” for women. The erasaid is quite a versatile piece, especially when it is worn over an under dress for example. Depending on your own personal style, it is possible to wear the erasaid long or short. An example of the Erasaid is shown below:
